A Little Bit About Me...

It has been my experience that each student has his/her individuals needs and that each learns differently. Thus, I make a conscious effort to sit down privately with each of my students so that we can address his/her concerns effectively and put together a constructive plan to improve his/her skill set.
As a tutor with Webster University's student literacy corps, I worked with individuals, pre-K-adult, on reading, literacy, and writing skills. I held this position for two years along with a summer position tutoring Algebra and French with HEC Upward Bound, which service at-risk youth. I found both programs extremely enjoyable and found that all of my students were eager to learn and improve their skill set.

I have 24 years of teaching experience in grades 7-12. These experiences have been at public and private school settings. The subjects I have taught include various levels of mathematics, physical science, American history, world history, Spanish and physical education. In addition, I have tutored students periodically during this time span, mostly in mathematics. I have also tutored adults on occasion.

A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout my college years, I was involved in coaching high school aged students in baseball as well as younger kids in a baseball camp. During my last year of college, I helped with a after school tutoring program that included students up to the sixth grade. All subjects were covered and tutoring was done in one-on-one as well as small group settings. My bachelor's degree is from a self designed major I had developed to best fit the needs I saw beneficial for teaching in a non-traditional classroom environment. For some children, some subjects are hard to understand. Children can get frustrated just by not being able to understand the subject matter. My approach is to alleviate that frustration by going through the steps slowly and demonstrating these steps several times. In addition, I allow students to go through the steps on their own with my assistance so that I can catch any mistakes that they make. I am patient, and I find creative ways for children to learn. I like teaching students by explaining the material in a way I think is easiest to understand. I always emphasize how the material relates to what students already knows and how they can use what they know to solve problems. Often students cannot see how what they are learning can ever be useful in real life situations so I also try to give examples of when they might use what we are covering. Most importantly I am still a student myself I find I always learn better with examples so I always try to work through plenty of examples.
