I hold a BS in Mus. Ed. and an MM in Music Composition. I taught at the Elementary and Secondary level for 5 years, then moved on to teach in a Community college for 26 years. my subjects were applied music, choir and band in Elementary & Secondary. In college I instructed academic music courses in Theory & Composition, History, Voice, Beginning and advanced instrumental performance. I love teaching and working with all children. I believe all children can learn, but each in different ways. I have experience tutoring anything from phonics to college level writing. I taught preschool for a year and a half at the Lion and Lamb Christian Preschool in Reno, NV. I have also tutored at the UNR Writing Center (when it still existed) during the Fall semester of '08. Since October 2008 I have tutored at the Reno Huntington Learning Center where I teach phonics all the way up to SAT and ACT Verbal test prep. While at UNR I took an upper division English Class entitled "How to Tutor an English Writer." I also have a minor of Spanish from UNR. I am by no means fluent in the language but can read and understand it fairly well. I am comfortable tutoring anything below advanced high school Spanish.

I love helping people achieve their dreams and goals and I have high expectations for all children and adults I am teaching. As an educator I encourage my students to believe in themselves and convince them they have the ability to be successful in whatever they want to achieve. I have a friendly, encouraging approach with my students; I like them to feel comfortable working with me, but I also let them know that I have high expectations and that our tutoring sessions are not social time. My goal is to get students to understand the material and feel comfortable discussing and applying it, so my tutoring sessions are often very conversational.
