Having graduated from a Masters in the Arts of Teaching (Adolescent Science - Physics) program in the summer of 2009, I am not only well versed in the structure of New York State Regents Exams but am also up to date with many modern teaching and assessment techniques. Once in a classroom I realized that I was meant to teach. I love working with students who are challenging and those who challenge me. I believe that I can become a better teacher only by continually challenging myself and my students. The key phrase “engaging students” seems less than what is required in the classroom. I want my students to be engaged but I want them to encompass and enjoy what they are doing as well. I have a strong background in mathematics because I have earned a BS in Computer Science and Mathematics. I believe that different teaching styles help different students. A method of both lecture and active learning can be effective for the widest range of students. This allows the students to get a brief introduction to the day’s material before they work in groups on questions about the material. I feel that student’s can learn best from each other because they are all at the same level. If a group is unsure of an answer they can always ask the teacher or look it up in a book. Finally, active learning demands that the students find the answers instead of being told them. This will benefit them greatly once they join the work force.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of one of the top state schools in New York, I have always believed in the importance of education. I have a BA in art studio, 2 years of biology/chemistry, and Calculus I&II, which has given me a well rounded education.
