I try to take a hands-on approach to teaching when possible. I find it helpful to use varied and often unusual objects and materials when teaching a lesson; it tends to make the material more memorable. However I am not above using the standard pencil/paper/textbook approach when needed.
I consider myself to be a "beginner" teacher as I have recently graduated college and received my license. I have spent roughly 500 hours in the field as a result of college course requirements, and I have successfully completed a 12 week internship (student teaching) experience. When a question is asked, I am not going to simply just tell the student the answer. I would want them to think it out and try and figure it out for themselves. I would however guide them in the right direction and even ask them other questions they may know in order for them to figure out the intial problem. I feel that these types of interactions are a more effective way of learning. Also, writing things down helps tremedously because not only are you thinking it, but you're seeing it and reading it as well. I am a very easy person to get along with, and I am also very encouraging. I enjoy helping others whether it's in an academic environment or not.

A Little Bit About Me...

I worked at Kent State in the writing center tutoring writing while in college. I also worked as a teacher's assistant for Canton City Schools from January 2005 until May 2007. I have been a substitute teacher since January 2008. I teach language arts and elementary math in elementary school. In high school I generally substitute teach in various subjects. My best subjects in college were English, Oral Discourse and related subjects. I took a wealth of writing courses at Kent State.
I encourage students to be creative and not be afraid to try. I allow my students to express themselves. I encourage students to build a large vocabulary and learn to express themselves in writing.
