I am currently a history teacher and have been teaching for 5 years. I received my BA in history from VCU in 2007. I went on to teach for one year before I entered into a graduate program at the University of Maryland, College Park. While in Maryland, I taught full-time and went to school full-time. I taught honors government and U.S. history. I now teach geography and world history. I also anticipate teaching AP U.S. history this school year.
I use a "student-centered" approach. I like to tap into the student's prior knowledge first so I can meet him/her where he/she is. I am a fan of assessments. They can either be verbal, nonverbal, formal, or informal.

As a small boy I remember going to the small local library in Portsmouth, Virginia where the Librarian once said that she knew that if she would only have one patron for the day that it would be me. I have worked in three libraries during my career. During college I was selected as a Librarian Assitant based on my interest, academic achievement and overall poitive conduct at the university. My approach is to encourage students to define their learning goals and then to discover how the learning the content can help them achieve their goals. I like to use real life examples to help students recall what they have learned. I am less interested in rote memorization. I tend to be structured and patient.
