My comments on tutoring Government : Rec'd "A", "B"

I started out tutoring elementary students in basic math and English grammar while I attended college part time in the 1980's. I continued tutoring young students and adults in the 1990's, tutoring Basic Math, Basic and Intermediate Algebra, Basic Geometry, English Composition, Speech, Study Skills and the Sciences. In addition, tips were given to enhance test-taking skills in hard-to-Ace subjects like Economics. I have tutored for the Sickle Cell Organization in 2001, helping students catch up numerous missed assignments. I tutor when the opportunity presents itself. Last Summer-Fall I assisted a nursing student in Speech and helped with two research papers. More recently (Oct.2009-Jan.2010), I worked tutoring students grade 2-10. From April to June 2010, I tutored high school students from Highland Park High School in Basic Math and Geometry, and Algebra I & II. Starting the latter ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with children. I have volunteered my time as a football, baseball and basketball coach for several years. I believe in following the classroom curriculum of the student and using that as a starting point for learning. Communication is a key ingredient in the formula for success. It is essential to have a positive feedback mechanism in place to encourage education. Every child has his/her own strengths and it is my goal to discover, nurture, and maximize these areas.
I graduated from Lawrence Technological University with a bachelor's degree in Business / Computer Information Systems. I completed numerous courses in Mathematics, Science, Statistics, English Composition, and computers. I have 20 years experience working in the Computer and Health field for Chrysler Corporation and St. John Health. Also, I returned to college to pursue an associate degree in Nursing a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate student from Central Michigan University I have learned several different methods to use when tutor students. Knowing that all students do not learn the same way or at the same speed I use several different programs/methods when tutoring a student. With younger studengts I use a combination of work books and computer lessons along with small homework assignments. With older students I use programs such as writing small reports at first while slowly building them up to larger yet easy to grasp essays. I work with the students on topics that they are interested in to try to make their tutoring as enjoyable as an enjoyable experience as possible.
My passion is working with students and seeing that my teaching styles are getting the students motivated and excited about their progress. As stated above I use different teaching styles with each student and their need. I ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Thomas Edison said, "Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. I am extremely persistant. Whatever it takes to get someone to understand a concept I will strive to discover it. Most of all the process of learning should be kept exciting so that the pupil is left yearning for the next lesson.
I went to public schools in East Detroit, Michigan. In eighth grade I set a personal goal to attend the University of Michigan. I never had private tutors. My strongest subject is math. Mr Learmont, my junior high school history teacher would frequently say, "Take care of these books and these books will take care of you." It was that inspiration that raised me to love learning and in turn teaching others.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been tutoring for many years and enjoy the experience. While working at a tutoring center, I created detailed progress reports and organized individual lesson plans for each student and discussed their progress with parents on a daily basis. It was very rewarding to see that I could make a difference in a child's life. It is very exciting to see a child succeed, which in turn raises their confidence and self-esteem. Whether in groups or in one-on-one sessions, I work patiently with each student and on their level, to ensure they get the most out of our time.
I have recently graduated from Lawrence Technological University with a BA in graphic design, although all of my work experience has been with children. I started this experience in high school, as a teacher aide to a third grade class, creating lesson plans and working one-on-one. I have tutored in a professional ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My approach to tutoring is to make learning fun and exciting for students. I have to learn what they find interesting and apply it to my lessons and style. Not every student likes the same things, or learns the same way. I am a huge advocate of Howard Gardener and his Multiple Intelligence Theories. Using different techniques and new, fresh ideas will maintain the student’s interest. Learning by rote instructions and memorization does work, but there are other tactics and styles that I incorporate in tutoring. I believe that every single child has the ability to learn and be proud and confident of their abilities, but it is up to me to bring out the best in that child, so not only I can see it, but they can too!
I have always enjoyed helping others. I've taught in several classrooms and have tremendously enjoyed my experience. I learned that some students needed more time wi ... read more

My personality lends itself nicely to the art of teaching, both adults and children. Thankfully, my educational and professional background supports my ability to tutor in all areas of elementary education, particularly Language Arts. As a young student, I was terrified of mathematics. I carry with me the humility I felt at that time, being frustrated and falling behind, when I approach each individual child and their challenge. From my experience I know how helpful tutoring can be and I take great pride in being able to help a child overcome an educational obstacle. Lastly, I always make sure the child I’m helping knows I believe in them. They CAN do it, and I’m here to help.
I have several years experience volunteering for the HOSTS (Helping One Student To Succeed) Program, affiliated with the Troy School District (Michigan). I have received their “Outstanding Mentor” Awar ... read more

I have worked at banks since 2001. I have an Master of Business Administration in Finance and Accounting and a law degree. My experience has been useful from a practical math application.
