Professor of English: to Broaden your Mind and Skills

I have taught at both the middle and high school level in the subject of English. Within that broad subject I have taught World Literature, British Literature, Creative Writing, Rhetoric, Composition and more. I am currently a Professor at San Jacinto College where I teach collegiate level Composition.

My teaching style conforms to the learning style of the individual. Since no two people learn the same it is impossible to tutor the same way. I feel that once I have found a way to spark their interest and how they learn, it is much easier to help them acheive their goals and grasp the material. Many times the main goal is to teach the student how to learn, as many do not understand that function. Once they understand how they learn it becomes fun and easy.

A Little Bit About Me...

Since moving to Houston in 1999, I have accrued teaching experience in the following venues: Adminsitration, helping students with time management skills and homework. Taught my own children phonics, constructed science fair experiments and writing assignments. Tutor: Tutored a child with learning disabilities in Social Science, Language Arts, Spelling and History.
My teaching style is thus: First engage the student about what subject he likes, engage in small talk and then tutor the assignments. ALways praise the student and point his or her strong abilities and plus tell the student they can do this assignment. First I let the student try the assignment and then I will jump in and help.

My life has been filled with teaching and working with children. At the age of ninteen as a very young mother I felt a sense of duty in teaching my children how to achive higher than they can ever have imagined. I love to see the look of awe on their faces when they realize that they to can understand which ever subject that slips them. The rest is simple practice, practice, practice seals the deal.
