Learning's only effective if it's fun.

I have a goofy, hands-on style. I try to make it fun. I am very strict, however, when it comes to grammar, respect, and completing proposed tasks. Obviously I have different styles for adults and children. My lessons are always custom designed with the client in mind and age-appropriate. I have an arsenal of materials and activities which I constantly draw from. I aim for a balance between games of all sorts and drills/assessments. I have to be very flexible and creative while teaching, and I enjoy it very much.

Teaching and working with children not only educates them but it educates myself in the process. I get to touch up on materials that the children are learning, as well as learn better ways to educate students. Patience is what I believe is the most important aspect of teaching. Children can become unfocused very easily. When children are distracted it may be very difficult to get them focused. Taking your time and making sure they refocus, can actually save time. If they are unfocused and miss a part of what is instructed, they will be confused throughout the whole process. It helps to be patient with the educating process. When it comes to teaching or tutoring, I find that it is necessary to craft a pedagogical style that will match the learning style of your student. Each student learns in a different way, whether visually, aurally, kinesthetically, subconsciously, or simply by rote. I find that it is necessary to try each option with all students. I feel that the trouble that many students may have is that they operate differently from the rest of their peers and simply need a different approach to learning material.
