Creating a solid foundation for education

As a teacher and a tutor, I have always felt that each student learns differently and that they each need to be taught based upon the most efficient method that works for each individual student. Most of my day while teaching involved working with small groups of students based upon their areas of weakness. I used a lot of hands on instruction and activities which allowed students to gain a solid foundation before moving on to more complex skills. Continual feedback was given to each student as well as constant assessment to ensure that each skill was mastered before moving on.

ALL STUDENTS WELCOME!

Whenever I can, I like to be very hands-on in my teaching my students. For example, once I was teaching my class about trees. I had them go outside and collect samples of bark which had fallen on the ground. Then we created a gigantic mural in my classroom and glued the pieces of bark to a tree we had drawn.

My comments on tutoring Elementary : Through 3rd grade and ESE

I believe every student has their own style of learing. I am very much a visual learner and utilize this style. Many students, though, are tactile learners and/or find their attention is kept using computers. I love discovering what type of learner each child is.
