I believe that a genuine interest makes the strongest foundation for education. Creativity and a sense of serious play clan create interest in "boring" subjects. A handful of wonderful marbles will draw the attention of children and adults with simple beauty and color. They can also be used to demonstrate important lessons in physics and probability. In fact, math and science exist primarily outside the confines of books. If the student can replace the textbook problem with inquisitiveness and interest, better learning will occur. Ultimately, the textbook problem will become transparent to the student, and he or she will be able to understand and excel.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been tutoring for many years with different kinds of children. To begin with, I tutored my younger sister starting when she was about seven years old to age twelve or thirteen. In high school, I also volunteered for an after-school program for Hispanic children ages seven-twelve where I helped them with their homework in various subjects. In addition, I spent about four months tutoring a severely autistic child, teaching him different communication skills and helping him to form patterns. When I had the opportunity to design and teach a Vo-Tech. School program from the ground up, I realized my love and passion for teaching and making a difference in the lives of my students. Being semi-retired with lots of time available, I am living out my passion by substitute teaching middle and high school students in my local school district. I enjoy working with all children. During the past twenty years, I had the opportunity to work with very diverse students from kindergarten to 6th grade.
