I am currently working on my M.A. in Spanish and will be complete in 2013. I am a GTA at UMKC. I tutored Spanish during my undergrad program up to the intermediate levels. I was a spanish grader for a year during my undergrad work. I tested out of three semesters of spanish and aced the tests (Spanish 110, 120, and 211). I also lived in Spain for two years.
I like to do group work when required. This can be practicing simple conversation in the spanish language. I also like to do one on one with those that struggle and need extra help. Laid back, but encouraging.If a child is struggling, I don't think you should add fear and criticism to the situation. Having had Catholic nuns in all my grammer school days, pretty much put the "fear of God" into me, until I went on to public high school and college. then I was able to relax and embrace english and literature.
My BA degree was in Speech & Theatre. Who would have known that a shy kid like me would have excelled in public speaking, english, and theatre. I love the English language, even though I've had classes in French and Spanish. I started school when I was 4 years old (too early), and all my grade school years was challanged with education. Now that I am an adult, I feel that I have the experience to help children understand and find it easier to learn English and grammer, sentence writing, composition writing, essays, etc.
