PHILOSOPHY The key to education is to love what you do and I love what I do. There's nothing more rewarding than seeing students' progress. As I teach with love and I create a fun environment for students (using games to practice the language), students become involved and interested in the classroom. I have also tutored one-on-one and I prepare a lot of different activities for the class and exercises for the student to be able to practice the language when I'm not there. I encourage watching TV news programs to practice listening comprehension and the use of flash cards in order for the student to memorize some short phrases. A Little Bit About Me...

I always try to consider the challenges that each individual student faces when I devise the way I am going to present materials. In terms of tutoring students in literacy/phonics/phonemic awareness, I am a big proponent of sequential and explicit phonics instruction that builds knowledge and competency step by step. My current work as a curriculum consultant for a phonemic awareness company, Reading Horizons, has been most satisfactory as their methodology, in use for many, many decades, uses sound practices based on this teaching philosophy.
In 1993, I entered my career in language acquisition by volunteering as an ESL teacher in the newly freed former Soviet satellite state, Latvia. A Little Bit About Me...

I have recently graduated from the University of Delaware and intend to pursue a Ph.D. in chemistry within the next few years. My major was in Chemistry with a minor in Biochemistry; I also focused on Theatre, Japanese, French, English, and Biology. I spent two semesters as a Teaching Assistant for General Chemistry and held personal office hours for tutoring regularly. I have worked at a learning center teaching students of all ages. In addition, I tutored various subjects in high school including ESL.
I strive to develop each student's interest in the subject at hand. He or she is far more likely to enjoy learning and retain information this way. I follow a method of individual trial and error supplemented with examples and corrections.
