Over many years as an IT person, I worked with clients, one on one, teaching them how to get their computer to do what they want it to do. Often times, the client would be very frustrated. I needed to first, relieve the frustration – then determine what needed to be done to rectify the situation (through a question and answer processes). I have a B.S. degree in Information Systems with over 30 years experience in the computer industry. I have 9 children which are home schooled (ages 3-17). I'm a math/science guy. I have taught Junior church in the past.
I believe in learning to do things the "hard" way for math, making change, etc. Calculators are good for higher functions and after basics are learned.
