My comments on tutoring Elementary Social Studies : I am in the process of becoming an elementary school teacher, therefore I am familiar with the lesson plans within K-5th grade.

I would say my teaching style is really focused on the student and what they need. In school I was an average student never getting lower than a C or higher than in an A. So I really want to focus on listening to the student, especially because they probably are not heard at school. I want to make each subject interesting to the student, whether that means going out and playing basketball or chess or candy or anything the student absolutely loves. I want to attach each subject to a good memory, I don't want to pressure them or push them to just memorize facts that I know they will probably forget after they are tested. From my own personal experience I want any student I tutor to turn around and actually enjoy learning about a subject they are having trouble with.

Chinese, Guitar, History Tutor in Bay Area Seeks Students

Mandarin Chinese - I use Total Physical Response Teaching (TPRS) when teaching elementary aged novice learners, which teaches Chinese as well as American Sign Language. History - I teach history using the many multi-media databases that I subscribe to each month. Musical instruments - patience and hands on. My first tutoring experience actually began when I was a high school senior and tutored ESL students at South High School. Since then I have worked in a summer program tutoring elementary ESL students, gone on to graduate with degrees in English and Environmental Studies, and most recently, worked as an Americorps member at Andersen Elementary and Open in Minneapolis. My primary role at Andersen was tutoring elementary students (mostly 5th grade) in math and reading. I also have some experience in teaching ecology at a couple of environmental learning centers.
