I earned my MA degree in Biology from Villanova University in December 1997. For the next two years I earned my living by tutoring students in biology and math as a side business until I landed a research position at Princeton University in 1999. Since then I have been doing laboratory research in the pharmaceutical industry. My extensive background in Biology has allowed me to learn several aspects in the field that I would not have learned in the classroom. Although my tutoring was not through official channels, I feel that my experience taught me that each student is different and responds to different types of approaches of learning. As an undergraduate at Penn State, I became interested in education through positive experiences with my own teachers. At this time, I was an active high school volleyball coach, an environmental science teaching assistant, and an environmental science camp counselor. Earning a BS in Biology grounded my content knowledge in both Biology and Science and propelled my education in writing, lab experience, field experience, and technology. I am a firm believer that teaching style should encompass diversity of instruction and assessment because the students themselves are very diverse. I will begin each lesson with an agenda and an intended learning goal. Instruction of the lesson will be delivered through a variety of media including text, videos, animations, etc. that would enhance the student’s learning.
