I have been a teacher for 15 years in East St. Louis, Il School District 189. Over those years I have taught 1st grade for two years, and Middle School Grades 6-8 Language Arts, Reading, and Social Studies. I have also served as a Homebound Instructor for Elementary, Middle School, and High School Students for 3 years. In addition I have served as an after school tutor for 4 years with the YMCA and Sylvan Learning Center. I was basketball coach for 2 years for 4th and 5th grade students previously. Finally I served as the Chairman over the Real Men Read Program at Lincoln Middle School for 4 years.

A Little Bit About Me...

While my area of expertise is physical education, I have gained great experience in other areas of education while searving as an in house substitute for Highland Elementary. Serving as an in house substitute provided me with experience working with large groups, as well as working with students on an individual basis. This experience also provided me with the wonderful opportunity to work with students with special needs. I have also served 2 years as a full time physical education teacher, which gave me an opportunity to interact with students and further understand the learning process.
I believe the biggest key to learning is finding a way for students to relate to the information. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a recent graduate from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, with a BS in Business Administration - International Business and a focus in Chinese. Because this program is relatively new, a degree in International Business required multiple Finance courses, which allowed me to learn many advanced statistical and mathematical concepts. In these classes, I often assumed an informal tutor role and helped my fellow students understand difficult points. In addition, I trained new employees during my tenure as Lab Manager of a campus computer lab.

Because science is a "hands-on" subject, I feel it is extremely important to use demonstrations, examples that are relevant to every-day life, experiments and anything else that will help students understand the world around them. I have been told that I have an "out-of-the-box" approach to learning, but have found it to be successful with the majority of students. My goal is to help children in any context that I can. Although I have my sights set on being a pediatric neurologist, my vision encompasses more than this end.
