After graduating from Clyde High school, I went on to Ohio State Mansfield, where I majored in psychology and special education. I am currently a full time student at Ashford University online. I obtained my BA in Social Work and have worked in that field since 1993. In 2005 I began a part time job as an Adult Education instructor for Sentinel Career Center where my primary focus was language arts/writing. I was part of the STAR reading program where I became certified to teach adults to read. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always been a tutor of sorts. I love to teach kids because of the sparkle they get in their eyes when they finally understand what they are being taught. Each child have a different learning style so I try to work with them to see what works for them. I have worked with kids who have ADD and the gifted. The greatest thing I can teach is that we can teach to create intelligence, but wisdom comes from using all that you know.

The 2009-2010 school year will be my third year as a substitute teacher. I have worked with all levels of students, from special needs elementary to AP high school courses, and in both urban and suburban districts. I had some training as an educator in college but have lots of real world experience as well. I have a deep understanding of research strategies and love all of the social sciences. I also am a parent to a third grader who recently tested into her school's gifted program and have plenty of experience supplementing curriculum to encourage the accelerated learner.

The methods of teaching I was instructed when I obtained my Bachelor in Education at the University of Akron Ohio, from 1989-1991, was the following Integrated, Whole language approach and Montessori. The method we were instructed to use in the Akron city school system was Integrated which uses basic and whole language approach language Arts. These integrated units allow us the opportunity to make sure children are learning relevant information and applying that knowledge to real life scenarios.
