My comments on tutoring Logic : Rec'd "A" in Basic course

My method of tutoring is to work with students where they are and add to their skills, to accomplish the final outcome, preferably an "A" or "B." Some students are visual learners and some are informational learners, or some students combine the two. The potential I see in students is what I try to bring out and have them realize they are capable of going a step further, to reach their goal. The importance of education and the students' continuance of same cannot be stressed enough.
I started out tutoring elementary students in basic math and English grammar while I attended college part time in the 1980's. I continued tutoring young students and adults in the 1990's, tutoring Basic Math, Basic and Intermediate Algebra, Basic Geometry, English Composition, Speech, Study Skills and the Sciences. In addition, tips were given to enhance test-taking skills in hard-to-Ace subjects ... read more

Mathematics Teacher Grades 7-12

I like to have the kids be interactive with my my teaching. I have the kids fill out "fill in the blanks" while I am lecturing and I like to have the kids come up to the board and do problems after the lecturing. I also like to apply real world applications when possible.
I am currently working as a substitute teacher in many districts in metro Detroit. I have taught Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Precalculus, and Trigonometry at Oakland Christian School where I did my student teaching internship. Although the majority of my work experience is in business, my selling and people skills are tremendous as a teacher. Asking the "right" questions are the key to sales and can also be applied to teaching.

Kind and patient tutor for math, science & computing.

Although not degreed in math, science or computers, they were my favorite subjects. More importantly, I am gifted in communicating concepts into terms my students understand and grasp. Repetition doesn't equate to learning, it's a component, it's a way to practice, but it is not how the mind grasps the concept. You will find me kind and patient, I understand you may not get the concept the first or second time. I do however, have high expectations in completing homework. It doesn't have to be correct, but it must be done. This personal responsibility will help you far beyond any course I help you in.
Patient, relaxed, friendly. Able to translate concepts into different scenarios in order to help the student grasp the concept.

I can’t imagine myself not spending the rest of my life teaching. I have worked both in the educational field and the corporate world and without a doubt I know with whom my heart belongs. As a tutor at an Ann Arbor based institution I had the opportunity to work with a number of different backgrounds and styles of learning. I aided a varying degree of students needs such as: grammatical usage, content flow and structure, topic generation, sentence structure, MLA/APA implementation, research methods, written language norms, etc. I have great passion for both education and learning which I hope to share with every student with whom I work. I believe every student is cable of producing a positive educational outcome if given the proper tools and encouragement. Not all students comprehend material in the same way, I believe it is up to educators to help their students recognizes their stren ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My BS in Civil Engineering provided me with an extensive education of advanced Mathematics such as Calculus, Dynamics, Physics, and Statics. I worked for 10 years in the field which included design of subdivisions, site condominiums, and other developments. Correspondence between review engineers on projects required proper writing and grammatical skills. Since October of 2009,I have worked part-time for a Metro Detroit tutoring agency. Subjects include Math, Science, English, and ACT test preparation.
Patience and flexibility are the keys. You can't explain a concept the same way to each student and expect each one will understand. Some students need extra time to grasp the material so it's important not to progress unless there's certainty of complete comprhension. Encouragement is also necessary which will build their confidence, and a confident student is a better one.

To learn math is to do math. In order to do math or chemistry one must know how to read the subject material. I specifically teach students to read the text allowing them the tools to be able to teach themselves. After the student reads each section (before our session) and takes notes he/she and I will then cover all of the material together and I will address any questions the student might have. I teach with real world applications, modeling, and modified teaching based on the needs of each student. Because I enjoy the lifestyle of a teacher so much I have even taken up coaching football, wrestling, and basketball to teach leadership and sportsmanship.
I earned a BA in math and chemistry secondary education from Olivet College, a liberal arts college in Olivet, MI. There I earned enough credits to fill the requirements for a math major and four minors including organic, ph ... read more

I believe that every child can succeed in education. It is just a matter of finding the correct learning style for that person. This is based on my experience in education over the past 30 years. I have taught in colleges, corporations and K-12. In each of these arenas, I have found that knowing the student and the way they learn is probably the most important aspect of imparting knowledge. Therefore, my teaching style would vary considerably depending on the learning style of the person. I am patient and creative with a love of life-long learning. It is my goal in education to impart on students that love of learning.
I am a life long learner and interested in several different areas of study. During my BS degree, I majored in Biology and minored in mathematics and earned a teaching certificate. Then I received my Doctor of Chiropractic degree. I developed and taught a “Bu ... read more

As I've tutored for over four years I've noticed that each person has their own unique style of learning. At the beginning it is rather slow trying to understand the students style of learning, but once I understand the best way to present the material at hand I exploit it for all its worth. I make sure the student understands fully every problem at hand and never move forward until I feel comfortable moving forward. I make sure the student gets a strong foundation of the material and will be able to recall information readily when need be for future problems.
I have a BS in mathematics because I believe not only is the abstract mathematics important to understand, but the application is just as important.
