My comments on tutoring Reading : For high school tutoring I prefer to use the New Critical approach to the text. Only by finding the balance and symmetry in a text can the themes and symbols can make sense. However, I often find it helpful to introduce other ways of reading: historical context, significant biographical information on the author, and political and social philosophies can enrich a student's understanding of a text.

I earned my BA in English in 2010 and have been teaching and tutoring high school and college students ever since, both in the classroom and as a private tutor. My years of experience have helped me understand not only what is expected of students but how to best teach those skills. My expertise includes grammar, AP classes, creative and academic writing, in-depth text analysis, and vocabulary development. My favorite thing to teach is grammar because once my students learn how sentences function, they can finally have fun writing and editing their own work! I am a recent graduate of Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania (May 2011). I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in creative writing.
