My comments on tutoring MCAT : I have studied for and taken the MCAT, and will be applying to medical school in the summer of 2013.

I have succeeded as a Pre-Med student and psychology major while playing for the University of Colorado D1 women’s volleyball team and thus developed excellent study skills. I have taken and done well on the MCAT and I am applying to medical school in the summer of 2013. A Little Bit About Me...

As an undergraduate, I became very passionate about the sciences and graduated with a BA in Chemistry with a minor in Psychology and Biology. During my collegiate years, I Peer Tutored for General and Organic Chemistry laboratories and held review sessions for these courses. During my latter two years, I also tutored at the Writing Center, acting as Lead Tutor during my senior year. I strongly believe in learning by doing. I have never given a lecture or taught something 1on1 without providing practice problems or peppering students with questions. The hardest part about this is getting students to understand that it is okay to ask and answer questions. Most students I have encountered are used to simply looking at the teacher but never really interacting with them. If I ask a question and nobody gets it, I rephrase it, reteach the section that led up to the question and generally try to understand why the question is not being answered. Aside from some initial amount of memorization, students need to learn how to think through concepts and ideas, and the best way to do that, regardless of subject, is ask them things.

Teaching has become a big passion of mine, and I have taught people of all ages. Everyone learns in a different way--some visually, others verbally. I like to incorporate both into my teaching, by showing both you reinforce the topic and hit on both learn styles. After both a visual demonstration and verbal explanation I like to see the individual repeat what I just showed them.
