A Little Bit About Me...

I have always picked things up quickly, more quickly than my peers. My peers have often come to me to ask for my help in those areas. I also see how to apply what I have learned to original problems because I see connections and hold a deeper understanding of the material. My double major in Chemistry and Biochemistry with a mino in Mathematics was full of its fair share of difficult material, and I was almost always able to help my peers, as well as younger students, through their problems.
I can usually find a way to relate the material that the student is struggling with to something else that they understand. When they can make connections to more familiar things, then they can think themselves through problems more effectively. I recently completed graduate work in English at Texas A&M University, where I studied primarily in the digital humanities and digital pedagogy: I wrote my master's thesis on the new role of images in digital studies and worked on a project dealing with the integration of blogs and wikis in composition classrooms. I obtained assistantship positions for both of my two years at Texas A&M, first working as the assistant editor for Kosmas, a peer-reviewed journal, then teaching two sections of English 104, a composition class for college freshmen. I have been tutoring for many years with different kinds of children. To begin with, I tutored my younger sister starting when she was about seven years old to age twelve or thirteen. In high school, I also volunteered for an after-school program for Hispanic children ages seven-twelve where I helped them with their homework in various subjects. In addition, I spent about four months tutoring a severely autistic child, teaching him different communication skills and helping him to form patterns.
