More About This Tutor...

I believe every student can succeed in their courses. Therefore, I follow a different approach to teaching the subject from multiple perspectives not just one standard way of learning.
I have had over 3 years of tutoring students in Algebra as well as science. I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa and Sigma Kappa Delta where I graduated with honors from LSCS. I enjoy helping students to succeed in their courses. However, most teachers provide just one standard way of learning. I do not believe this is the way that students should be taught. In order to be a great teacher, every subject needs to be taught from multiple perspectives. I believe in my students and that they can succeed if they are given opportunity.

An understanding tutor

I have worked with all grade levrls as substitute school teacher with range from pre k to 12th grade and worked for a tutoring company while turoring an elementary student in math. I have a masters degree and while obtaining my degrees, I am very familiar with test preparation. I have taken basic computer classes in the past and I am more than able to teach the basics such as how to save a file.
The teaching style that I have always promoted is to recognize that everyone learns on a different level and at a different pace. Therefore, a step by step instructor is needed and that instructor has to know how to meet that individual needs based on what they know not what I know. You find alot of college professors teach lessons based on what they know and their experience not realizing that the some students learn at different paces. I experienced this as both an undergraduate and g ... read more

My teaching style is to engage young people into the developmental process, through empowerment. By allowing young to have a say in their own development, I find it makes them more willing to be open for learning. I am driven by my passion for young people to succeed; and I am always open for incorporating their ideas into the teaching process.
As, a product of the inner city, I was always interested in helping young people who came through the same path as I. I have a BA, in Broadcast and Communication Arts, and a Masters in Social science in many history subjects. To aid in my teaching abilities, I have work, in Research and Community Development for over thirty years. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always valued a good education so I earned dual bachelor degrees in English and Psychology from H.B.U. while working and raising two girls. After graduation I worked in college admissions for several years before deciding that I wanted to educate students instead of recruiting them. During the last year, I worked with elementary, middle, and high school students in the areas of tutoring and substitute teaching, which helped me gain a deeper understanding of what motivates students to learn. I have experience teaching and tutoring English, Reading, Mathematics, Psychology, and Science.
I love working with and teaching children of all ages. I am an active educator engaged in tapping into a student's unique learning style so I can provide the best education possible. I believe all students have the potential to learn with the appropriate tools and teaching style. I believe lea ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I hold a M.A. in medical anthropology as well as a B.A. in cultural anthropology. Throughout graduate school I worked as a teaching assistant and upon graduation I taught biological and cultural anthropology courses for the University of Memphis's department of anthropology. The focus area of my graduate studies was child health; this resulted in working on numerous projects with elementary and middle school aged students. In the past I have volunteered with adult literacy programs and I feel equally comfortable teaching teens as well as children.
I love working with children; I began early on as a summer camp counselor for the Girl Scouts of America organization. Additionally I baby-sat throughout my undergraduate years and as mentioned child health became my focus during graduate school. I believe that learning is best achieved through tactile experiences that help the individual ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I like working with children hands on and gaining a better understanding of what works best for them. Whether it be with visuals, paper, using words; I am up to meet the needs of the child to fulfill their highest potential. Also, I like learning from the child's response to see what works best and what doesn't as a best practices.
I have coursework in special education and human development and family studies that has prepared me to work with children and families. My volunteer and paid experience as a substitute and child care teacher has allowed me to apply this knowledge directly to working with this group. In addition, I have mentored high school youth in the areas of scholarship and community service. As a freelance grant writer and nonprofit management professional, my reading and writing skills would be invaluable to young children.
