Teaching and School Counseling Services In One Place!

My style of education is to teach by modeling. Students need to see things in a step-by-step format with instructions, followed by an immediate example. I also provide sample argumentative essays for students who learn by seeing a complete model. My counseling style is to work with students, first by building a rapport and then using that as the foundation to get a feel for their college/career interests. I then look at their grades to help them build a custom transitional plan into early adulthood.
I have been a teacher for the last fifteen years. I teach social studies, but my specialization is teaching argumentative (college level) writing.I have done plenty of SAT prep and tutoring for students at the high school and college level. I am also a school counselor and can offer a vast array of services including FASFA, Naviance/Common Application and college/career counseling.

My comments on tutoring Testing Strategies : Over the years I have studied both the way in which I have strategized when taking tests and the way others have. These strategies will help you reach optimal competency in your testing approach.

Start with the basics. Assess what level the student is at and then work that into a more challenging structure to pertain to what the student would like to accomplish.
I have been immersed the field of interpreting since 2008. Having graduated out of Bloomsburg University in 2012, over the last two years I have been professionally interpreting in three states and in various fields. My work ranges from public school classes, college lectures, medical appointments, religious sermons, platform events and government assignments. Regularly, I attend different workshops and Deaf events around the community to keep up with my skills and to continue learning the ever changing language of ASL.

Experienced tutor available

My engaging style is evident at the start of each tutoring session. I show my students by personal example how to persevere and succeed in academics and in life. For the past 15 years, I have been a full-time tutor for students in grades 1-12. I am a graduate of Wesleyan University with an emphasis in physical and cultural anthropology and an ongoing fascination with the study of prehistoric human societies. Presently, I use my diverse experience as a tutor, copy editor and radio news broadcaster to make each tutoring session truly memorable for my students. My students quickly see how much I care for their progress and success. I consider tutoring to be much more than just a profession, but a way to provide others with needed assistance. It is this goal, when met, which provides me with my greatest satisfaction as an educator.

I have taught music and guitar since I was 20 years old. I continued to teach guitar throughout college where I double majored in Political Science and Theology and minored in philosophy. My grammatical skills are excellent as I currently write for two different publications on the internet. I have been tutoring for the past year in Math and Reading in all levels from 6th grade math to SAT math. I also tutor GRE math. Since young I have always had a passion for learning and my education, and throughout my college years my desire and love for teaching has grown greatly. As a firm believer in the significance of education, I have a strong motivation to be able to help every student I teach grow as a student. To accomplish this I do everything I can to find what works most effectively for each student. My approach to teaching is one in which I believe every student has their own learning style(s), which I first try to identify and then adjust my teaching strategy to meet the individual needs of every student. I always let my students know that I believe in he or she and I constantly encourage as well as rejoice every little struggle he or she overcomes.

A Little Bit About Me...

I would want each student in my classroom to feel wanted and feel a sense of their identity present even when they leave the classroom. Each student should be given attention. To understand what they feel and how they react to the material being presented to them is very important to me. I would encourage students to learn and let their views be heard. Classroom discussions and debates can be great tools when you want students to become active and to voice out opinions. I would want the classroom to be a medium through which I can motivate students to question one another and help each other to pull through to gain “knowledge”.
As an intern at the University of Bridgeport, I have learned a lot from teaching in the New Britain and Rocky Hill Public Schools. I have earned my Master's Degree in Education and plan on completing my certification in Secondary Biology. I have learned how ... read more

Education is vital to establishing a strong foundation on which understanding is based. The absence of education allows opportunities for ignorance to take root and grow, resulting in negative repercussions within society.
