I work best in one-on-one situations with students of most ages, particularly older students. I make sure that the student understands my explanations of topics, and if they do not, I make sure to rephrase coherently so that they do. I actively engage the student in their learning, encouraging them to answer their own questions rather than simply lecturing. Because each student has a unique personality and way he learns, I believe in making lesson plans that will draw in the different types of learners: hands on, experience, visual, and aural. When I teach individual students, I can find out what that student needs in order to learn the best, and I teach to her strengths and work through her weaknesses. All students deserve to understand what is going on in the classroom and I firmly believe in individual help. My approach also includes student interaction in which the students have a voice and opinion on class experiences.
