I use the Socratic method, meeting the students where they are, and using gentle questioning to build on that base. I start with the assumption that all children are gifted learners, and communicate that belief to them. It is essential to create a base of success upon which to build future success. I also spend time finding something to like deeply about each child; and discovering what the child is interested in. When an adult takes an interest in the child's world, and shares that interest in a positive reinforcing manner, it opens to door to learning.

A Little Bit About Me...

While attending law school, I spent 2 full academic years tutoring first year law students. I tutored property and constitutional law. It was through tutoring that I was able to help several students improve their grades, both through emotional support and exceptional knowledge in the subjects. I enjoy learning new things and sharing that knowledge with others.
I believe that teaching through lecture and hands-on activities is the most effective. A student that is capable of "teaching" the teacher a lesson and explaining the subject in their own words will have a greater understanding of the subject. I love to teach. In order to be an effective teacher, I believe you have to be willing to adapt and change very quickly. This may also mean you have to spend extra time with students who are struggling or be proactive when you notice there is a problem instead of waiting for them to come to you. I also believe that if a student cannot remember what they have recently learned, then there is little importance to what was taught. I have a unique approach to teaching because my background is both analytical (numbers and science) and imaginative (theater and literature).
