I am a certified teacher for the Phenix City, Alabama school system. I have 4 years of teaching experience. I have 2 years experience in tutoring. I interned at Lakewood Elementary School in Phenix City, Alabama for first grade and fifth grade. I was then hired on as a second grade teacher upon the conclusion of my internship requirements. I have had experience with tutoring through our school's after school enrichment program, as well as outside/ individual tutoring.
I am a hands-on teacher. I like to teach a skill, show examples of the skill, allow the student to practice the skill with my assistance, and then try the skill independantly.

Elementary Math is one of my top subjects! Math is one of my many passions. I love problem solving and recognizing patterns. I can break down complicated problems to where they are easier to understand. I am also minoring in math at school.

My teaching style depends on the student, but I like to use demonstrations, work through a problem instead of giving a problem, and I use visual learning methods (pictures and examples)
I graduated high school in 2013 and became a student at Adams State University in the fall of 2013. I then moved to Georgia and I am currently working through my application process to Columbus State University. I did a lot of volunteer work during high school and was involved in many things, ranging from two years in ROTC to becoming a Student Ambassador for the "People to People" program. My philosophy of discipline is simple: observe, take data and find the function of the behavior. When a student misbehaves in class there is an underlying reason. Every behavior has a function. The function can be to gain access to an item or person, to avoid doing the work or aggressive behaviors if they do not understand the assignment completely, medicine or personal affects (hungry, sleepy or thirsty). I also believe in “brain breaks”. My students take a break every hour to get up, walk around, listen to music and get the wiggles out. A Little Bit About Me...

I have previously, and am currently, tutoring a fourth grade student with his spelling and math. I graduated from Auburn High School with a 3.8 GPA. I have an ACT score of 30. I am a National Achievement Semifinalist because of my PSAT scores and am waiting to find out if my SAT scores were high enough to qualify as a finalist. I will be attending UAB in the Fall of 2013. I enjoy working with children because they are so optimistic and fun to teach.
