English Language Arts Teacher

I believe that real learning takes place when students are actively engaged in the material. Finding the right materials to teach with will often inspire intrinsic motivation.
I have currently spent over 350 hours in a variety of school settings. From private school to public, first grade to twelfth, I have seen it all. The majority of my experience has taken place in a suburban middle school, however I have also spent a reasonable ammount of time working with inner city high school students. I double majored in college to recieve a bachelors degree in literature and writing, and spent a full year interning at a student run newspaper as a journalist and copy editor. I have tutored middle school students with a variety of learning disabilities, as well as SAT prep for high school students. I am currently registered for a series of NYS tests to earn my certification to teach.

I'm Here to Help!!!

I have often thought about becoming a teacher and have been told by friends, families and previous instructors in my own learning I would make a good one but I feel my personality would be better served in a more laid back and less rigid atmosphere. I am very laid back, amiable and have a strong passion for what I've learned and what I do (the whole aspiring writer thing I mentioned earlier).
I am a twenty eighty year old graduate of the University at Albany where I received my Bachelors in English Lit. in 2011. I have no previous teaching or tutoring experience but that does not mean I lack the knowledge or skill necessary to help one learn and grow. If they see a reason to want the knowledge, and see how it can expand their horizons, then they will be more open to learning.
