My teaching style varies depending on the age and needs of the student. When I worked with younger children, I often made up a game to help the children learn the material while having fun. Even with older children I tried to make learning interactive and suit their personality. I also varied the amount and type of aid given based on the student’s needs. While I do think learning should be suited to the individual, I do require that the student focus entirely on studying during the tutoring session. I truly enjoy teaching and learning, and I have high expectations for the student's progress.
I graduated summa cum laude from Berea College with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. I haven taken many courses in biology and chemistry. I have taught in all elementary grade levels. I taught preschool for 2 years, taught kindergarten 1 year, taught 7-8 grade remedial Math for 1 year. I then taught in the same K-12 school for 28 years. I taught the 4th grade for 26 years where I taught English, Reading, Writing, and Social Studies. I was the writing KERA trainer and portfolio writing leader and trainer for my school. I was selected as Teacher of the Year for my school 2 times. I was on the Site Based Decision Making Council for 2 terms. I am retired and was a substitute teacher for 5 years.
I feel each child is unique, so their learning style is unique.
