When getting my Bachelor's degree, English was my chosen major. I chose the subject because I love to read and write, and excel at both of those things. The teaching style that brings the best success I've found is centered on two points. First of all, it is based on listening, which means getting the student to talk. Eventually, with guidance, I aim to get them the ability to talk through and solve any problem. The second major technique I like to use is analogies. Even complicated subjects can be simplified into their core components which are easy to understand if taught as an analogy to something more familiar in daily life. Teaching the student "where" to look to find answers is big help too, there is reference material out on the web for ANY business related task you can think of.
I have 20+ years of real world business IT experience. Most of that was programming on IBM iSeries/AS400 mini computers in RPG or COBOL.
