Experienced elementary school teacher

I believe the first step in academic success is building self esteem and confidence. Learning should be engaging and fun. My students come to enjoy learning and gaining confidence as they grow and become better readers.
I have taught first through third grades for many years. Most of my experience is with elementary students. I now work with principals and teachers across the state to improve classroom instruction. I have also worked specifically with third graders to prepare them for the State Test. Each summer I am involved with the Read to Succeed camp where I work with students who have not passed the third grade end of the year test. The students retake the test after our camp and the vast majority pass and are promoted to the fourth grade. My schedule is very flexible.

In the Jackson Public School District I initiated an after school tutorial program to help student who were falling behind in reading math and language arts. As the Accelerated Reading Assistant in the library I was able to use the program to help students to progressively become fluent readers. I'm currently attending Jones County Junior College through online classes. I will be attending Hinds Community College in the spring of 2012. I have a 28 on the ACT including a 33 in reading, 28 in english and math, and 26 in science. I at tented East Rankin Academy in Pelahatchie, MS. I prefer to figure out how the student learns the best personally, whether through just hearing it or being shown examples and anything and everything in-between.
