A Little Bit About Me...

As a teacher, classroom experiences have made me realize all students do not learn the same fashion. Some students are more aggressive and advanced but there are those who are silent and will not speak out about difficulties understanding competencies. I prefer not to embarrass those students but give them the opportunity to learn one-on-one. While some students have a difficult time with teacher/student ratio, I like to give the option of working with another student who may understand the content and can teach another peer. In addition, students need to connect content with real world examples that I bring to the classroom. Students comprehend what they understand and identify.

I enjoy teaching very much. I think a strength trying to use a student's active content or prior knowledge to connect to material. My attempts are always to make the student feel empowered by the education process. If you can connect to way what they are into, either cartoons, hip-hop, popular culture, with conservative humor, then sometimes you can gain their understanding much quicker. I enjoy teaching very much. My style is based on discovery method. I use a series of questions and hints to help the student probe the mind to find the answer that the student may already know. Learning needs to be fun and exciting and I try to make learning fun. I want the student to be excited and have a sense of accomplishment that the student has learned a lesson well when the lesson is finished. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching methods are rather basic. I respect the student, and I encourage the student. I have found that reward goes much farther than ridicule or punishment when motivating a student to believe in themselves, and thus excel. I also teach the importance of information. What I mean by that, is that I teach the student why the information they are learning is relevant to the real world, I don't teach to a test. By employing these methods over the past several years, I have enjoyed a great deal of success with my students, and they have excelled beyond expectations.

A Little Bit About Me...

The importance of education has always been clear to me. I was born into a middle class family without a lot of resources. It became obvious to me that if I desired to pursue higher education I would have to qualify for scholarships and grants. I earned a bachelor degree in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Radio and Television. I was able to do voice over work at area radio stations. I wanted to earn a graduate degree so I applied to and was accepted into a gradaute program. I chose to study Education and Theology. I completed my degree in 1996. My love of the French language led me to pursue my BA specializing in the language and culture in college. After college I immediately traveled to France on a very generous scholarship from Rotary Foundation. This permitted me to live and study at a very old and prestigious university in Poitiers, France. I also tutored the children of my host family in English to earn a bit of extra money for traveling. I learned Spanish while in the Army for the purpose of intelligence gathering. I love working with both children and adults. I think that everyone has the ability to learn ,but teaching styles need to be geared toward the individual. Some seem to learn more through doing while others from lecture. Everyone has the potential to learn just at different paces.
