Experienced Tutor, Degree in Math!

Practice-Theory-Practice. I try to stay very focused on doing examples and practice problems. Some theory is necessary for a deep understanding, but it has to come at the right time. The student first needs some practice or at least an attempt to appreciate the process involved in solving a problem. Then I try and bring to light any issues and cover some theory. Then we do more practice.
I helped many students who had previously given up hope to pass the CLAST exam and I taught the math portion of an SAT prep course through FGCU's CAA. I tutored LD students through Adaptive Services at FGCU I taught labs at FGCU for intermediate and college algebra, statistics and business calculus. I taught AP Calculus and AP Statistics at a private school. I taught Pre-calc and Algebra II through Lee County School District.

My teaching style is best described as adaptive. We all learn differently, some more so by doing, others by seeing or listening, and others by thinking it through. Learning is a combination of processes, emphasizing what works best. For me, the approach is to use what works best for the student to learn what needs to be learned, with the underlying objective of the student learning how to learn - meaning a self-awareness of what works best for him or her. The tough learning is slugging it through the stuff that we just don’t seem to get or seems to have no value in our future lives. While I attended Auburn University and studied civil engineering I found myself enjoying group projects and helping other students get through the difficult curriculum. I needed some extra money my junior year of school and since I was enjoying working with other students I decided to try tutoring freshman and sophomore students in math and physics.
