My involvement in a Tutor/Mentor program at an international high school was an experience that was invaluable. What I learned is that education becomes a form of symbiosis. While I taught students how to peer review drafts, articulate ideas, pronounce words, read books; they actually taught me little bit about my own customs, values and beliefs, being an ‘American’ student. It is through teaching others that I learned how I taught myself. A Little Bit About Me...

I'm a firm believer that all children are different, yet, all are capable of learning. It is the responsibility of the teacher/tutor to identify the specific learning style of the students they are responsible for. Once this has been established, there should be a lot of motivation from both, teacher/tutor and the student. I practice one-on-one and hands-on strategies with students so that they may feel at ease, and to relax as they learn, and then I gradually allow them to become more engaged on their own. I'm very soft spoken and patient. I have made a difference in the lives of many students, and plan to keep on making a difference.

I am a true believer that learning is one the most rewarding and exciting aspects of an education. Being a peer tutor and having other leadership positions, I am aware that people are individuals and therefore will have diverse learning styles. Through my rigorous studying for enterance into medical school, I realize that the most effective way to determine if a student is truly comprehending a concept is to get them to "teach" or explain the concept back to the instructor.
