My comments on tutoring Composition : I have been teaching writing for 30 years at LaGuardia Community College, in NYC. I have helped many students from around the world to become fine writers of the English language. I am patient and understanding.

I have been teaching college (History, Philosophy, Ethics, writing, reading, social studies) since the early 1980's. My comments on tutoring Composition : In order to improve writing compositions one must be taught the principals of writing. I have several years experience and can help a student to improve his/her writing.

I have more than 20 years teaching and tutoring at the junior high and high school level of student. My students have improved their SAT scores and Classwork has allowed them to grasp literature,writing skills, and overall reading skills. A recent student improved 160 points on the SAT verbal test. With my instruction and hard work any student can achieve a higher score.

Composition is one of my top subjects! Teacher writing is my favorite thing to teach, as it is a chance to see a student's creativity and uniqueness in their work. As a certified Teacher of English (NJ), I am prepared to teach writing composition at any age. I have worked with beginning readers who are just learning to make letters into words and words into sentence. On the other side of the spectrum, I have taught High School English, and thus am familiar with working with the upper levels of writing. A Little Bit About Me...

I volunteered at the Ocean County Library writing center for four years and helped my peers construct, organize, and layout essays. I also proofread, edited, and helped in the creative process of their essays. I am curreently working part-time at Ocean County Library (Lakewood Branch) tutoring k-12 students after school in the S.M.A.R.T kids program.
I focus on starting small and helping the student develop on their own. For example, when I teach how to write a strong essay, we write many drafts of an introduction. Then, we write many drafts of body paragraphs. Last, we would focus on writing a conclusion. Then, by working seperately on all of an essay's parts, the combined product is much stronger. The art of teaching is similiar to building a house: you start with an idea, then a foundation, and finally the framework.

My main focus when teaching is to "keep it interesting". Students struggle with relating to their teachers and administrators in a classroom or school setting; either because the material in their opinion may be "boring" or the style of teaching is not corresponding with the students style of learning.
