A Little Bit About Me...

In addition to currently being a substitute teacher for the Missouri State Schools teaching a variety of subjects, I have tutored elementary students in all subjects for one year. Through another employer, I worked closely with two students to improve grade performance in writing and math. Also, I have worked as a group facilitator for about six months where I taught adults basic living skills and tutored them to help them obtain a G.E.D.
I work diligently to ensure that I am very versatile when tutoring as I believe students learn differently. I am very polite and patient when assisting a student who is struggling in getting a concept. When applicable, I try to make learning a fun and enjoy applying learned material to the student’s life. I have worked with children from preschool-12th grade both professionally and personally. I get along well with children, and try to hone in on a child's personality and how they learn best. (Visual, Learning by doing, Verbal) I also try to see what issues the child is having problems with - that could be not understanding what is required, or not having mastered certain skills that are necesary to build on to obtain the next level of achievement. I have earned a BSE from Missouri Baptist University in education and hold a valid Missouri Teaching Certificate. My training at Missouri Baptist University has been supplemented with observations, field experiences, and student teaching which I completed at Kingston Elementary, Vineland Elementary, and Athena Elementary. I have also earned two associate degrees; AA in Education from Jefferson College and an AS in Interior Design from Patricia Stevens College. During the last two years I have been a substitute teacher for the Desoto School District and the Affton School District. I just recently completed a long term substitute position at Affton High School in Geometry and Algebra classes.
