A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored with elementary, middle, and high school students in all levels of math, science, english, and social studies. I have tutored for around 3 years, and I see success with the kids that I work with because I know how to engage and effectively teach them because I was their age not too long ago!
I teach through repetition, practice, and patience. I want to help the student to the best of my ability, and will adapt to the learning style he/she finds most effective.

My comments on tutoring Geography : I was a city planner for 5+ years, and understand GIS programs, mapping, and general geography very well. I excelled at this subject while in graduate school, as well as in my earlier studies.

I have mentored various people since 2000, in all types of subjects, including math, science, social sciences, English, writing, literature, and other related subjects. My academic record is very strong, and I believe empowering those I work with every single time. The only pre-requisites are that you have to be willing to learn, and learn how to learn.
I like to use the Socratic method, mainly by asking questions and challenging assumptions. In addition, I like to engage those I teach, challenging them to think about what they previously have not considered. I believe in building on successes, and offering constructive criticism, where appropriate.

Accounting Tutor w/ Masters Degree

My style of teaching has a practical approach. I focus on what the student wants to get out of our time together and their goals.
I have both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Accounting. After receiving my masters in 2005, I went on to work in public accounting for 5 years where I gained experience as an auditor working for a Big 4 CPA firm. Part of my job responsibilities were to develop and coach new staff while on the job. This requires teaching them how to apply their accounting knowledge learned school as well as teaching them accounting principals that were both new or forgotten. During that time is when I discovered that I loved to teach, and I have been tutoring privately ever since. My work experience also includes working as a tax consultant and a business analyst for two different private companies here in Knoxville. That said, I am confident that my background and expe ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have been working with chidlren and older students for a number of years: I started as a sport trainer and I continue as a language tutor. Every one has a different way of learning, to which has to correspond a certain way of teaching: this is extremely easy when teaching one-on-one. I believe in having fun while learning!
My teaching and tutoring experience began prior to completing the BA in Foreign Languages: I had been teaching and tutoring English and Latin to a few Italian students. After graduating and moving to the USA, I started tutoring Latin and Italian to American students. I have always been drawn towards languages, and I find it easy to understand not only the different grammatical principles but also the different culture each language represents. Every time I am learning or teaching languages, I find myself to be enthusiast about explaining even the smallest gramm ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I like observing students and assessing their needs. Then finding fun and instructive materials to assist them with their learning. With ESL students it is very important to find their areas of weakness and fill in the gaps. Every student has different needs. They need to focus on these areas so they can succeed in the regular classroom.
As a teacher with ten years of experience I have taught all ages of students K-12. Most of my experience is in ESL. I am certified Elementary K-6, ESL K-12, Social Studies, Geography, Sociology, American History, and World History all 6-12. For the Past three years I have been teaching ESL for Sevier County Schools. My assignment has given me experience at 5 schools in our district and with students at all age levels every day.

My experience starts as a chemist in the nuclear industry, then proceeding to an environmental professional in the manufacturing industry, and finally as an adjunct professor of law for a distance education university. I have worked primarily in the utility industry, with short periods of employment in the aluminum industry and semiconductor industry.
My teaching style is informal and friendly. I have numerous years as an AWANA teacher of children at church in addition to one year experience as a professional chemistry teacher. A prior supervisor of my teaching style said "a natural teacher that immediately puts the students at ease".

I very much enjoy training and teaching because I understand how valuable information can be. A Little Bit About Me...

In May of 2009, I graduated from the University of Memphis with a degree in Communications. Throughout my time as a student, I took honors level classes and learned what it meant to go the extra mile for tests and essays. During my senior year of high school I tutored for the ACT exam and took pride in getting results. More the anything, I feel I am skilled in the preparatory and research process and enjoy helping others achieve.
My approach to teaching is to create a step-by-step process, providing the student with constructive feedback at each point. I understand that everyone learns differently and work to provide analogies and stories that make the topics relatable to students. Since I earned my K-6 teaching license, I have worked with children in several different instructional/mentor/tutoring positions. I worked as a teaching assistant in Fifth Grade and First Grade. At the same time, I was also the Education Director for the local Boys and Girls Club. I have also subbed and worked as a tutor since March of 2009.
I enjoy teaching and working with elementary aged children. I love those moments when, after much effort, the light of understanding dawns in a student's eyes. When it comes to how children acquire knowledge, I believe it is very important to help them build new knowledge based upon their prior knowledge and experiences. I am aware of the different ways that children learn and attempt to structure my approach in tutoring to match those learning style differences. Finally, I believe that building a positive relationship with both the pupil an ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My live for the written word resulted in my acquiring a dual major in both Literature and Creative writing. I have entered the field of education so that I may share this passion with others. For the past eight years I have been working in a Montessori school, first in the early childhood classroom, and now in the elementary classroom, resulting in my having seen children run the gamut of primary education.
I am an energetic educator and learner. The best way to teach a student is to provide them with the tools they need to discover the information for themselves. A teacher does no good if they simply feed the student the desired information. When we provide the student with the means of discovery, then what they find, they own. Having worked with children of varying ages, I am adept at problem solving and managing conflict, and I have an abundance of patience. Children are ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

In high school, I was a member of the Governors Peer Study Program where I tutored lower classmen in the areas of mathematics and science. I graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2002 where I earned a Bachelors degree in Business. I have a strong background from work experience in statistics and logistical management.
I love working with college bound high school students. I believe that proper preparation at the high school level will determine how easy or hard the transition to college will be. The difference between earning a scholarship or not may determine whether a child goes to college or enters the work force performing entry level work. Education is the key to making the world a better place for everyone.
