I use a Socratic method whereby the student is encouraged to think about the math problem and generate suggestions about how to characterize it. Once the student's mind has been stretched a bit, I begin adding hints that direct the student's thought process in the direction of the solution.
I currently work full time as an administrative assistant at a Yeshiva Torat Emet, a private school in Houston. I tutor in the evening, and on weekends. I have tutored AP Calculus and 7th grade math for The Math Coach in Houston, TX. I previously worked as a Technical Writer for Brown Technical Publications.

I think it takes a lot for one teacher to reach all of types of students who are all at different levels of interest in the subject being taught as well as at different levels of understanding. However, I feel it is the teacher's responsibility to give them all equal opportunity to learn. It is not just about grades and assignments, that is just the means to an end, but it is about learning. In order for the students to learn, the teacher needs to be passionate about the students as well as the subject that is being taught.
