As a college student, I wanted to help other struggling students as well as polish my own skills. I decided that tutoring students would be a great job to earn money and achieve some personal goals. In addition, I played college sports so my students were other athletes. I have tutored students in math, accounting, finance, English, and various other business classes.
My teaching style is very hands on. I like to work the problems out with the students and show them how to do each step. I love questions and I love for the student to fully understand. I want the student to fully comprehend what they are doing. If not, they will never be able to do it without me there. Confidence is key and that can be achieved through repetition and a full understanding.

A Little Bit About Me...

My favorite part of tutoring is working with children who are frustrated with a subject and being able to break it down and teach it to them in a way that they can relate to. Also, the self-confidence the student gets that comes from being prepared for a test is very important.
My freshman year at Clemson I tutored 7th graders in math. I was also a tutor in high school for a k-6 school for children with low-income families. It has always been a passion of mine to help others with grasping a subject.

I personally prefer one on one interaction for tutoring . I would first determine areas which need to strengthened. ThenI would emphasize these areas in the instruction process. Then I would assign work (exercises, problems, questions). These would then be reviewed to determine the students grasp of the material. These areas would be worked on until the student had an adequate grasp of the material. Accounting is a subject that is learned by doing.Certainally a student has to read the material, but actual hands on doing is where real learning and retention take place. Most of my tutoring hs been volunteering , but generally with minimal instruction those I have assisted have increased there scores 15% to 20%.

I believe education is primarily about learning, not merely making a grade. As I applied this philosophy in college, I realized that where true learning occurs good grades follow. I completed a bachelor's in accounting summa cum laude in 2009. In addition to my major focus in finance and business, I completed a minor in History and took an extensive number of English courses as well. The broad liberal arts framework for my college curriculum taught me not only specific subjects, but how to learn and how others learn. I have had experience tutoring in math, accounting, and history.
I believe that true education requires your child to synthesize the material, not merely memorize answers. As your child's tutor I will seek to provide them guidance and instruction to help them solve problems and learn material on their own. Not only will your child learn the material, but my goal is to ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching/mentoring style would be to build the child up in everything that they do. Being a positive teacher with an uplifting personality can help a child learn much better than if they are belittled. I believe that there are no “stupid questions” and the only way to learn anything correctly is to ask!

What I have discovered about myself is that I learn differently from other people. I am the kind of person who prefers to set aside that assembly instruction manual and put together that Christmas toy by laying out the pieces in an orderly fashion. There is so much pleasure in problem solving. I learn by asking myself questions. I have little patience for mundane drills and memorization if they can be avoided. Each child is different. It is meaningless to say that a child is intelligent. There are many kinds of intelligences. Some children are more intelligent in memorization. Others are intelligent in solving problems. It is best to discover the child's strengths and weaknesses and adapt a program to each and every child.
I love learning and the precision arts such as mathematics. This has driven me to begin in a computer career. I spent almost two decades applying ... read more

Teaching is my passion and the greatest teachers are those who are able to adapt their teaching styles to meet the needs for different students. I like interactive teaching because it better instils the principles explained and also helps keep students focused. I take theories and break them down into day to day activities which the student can relate to. I do not just provide material for the students to pass but help them to see the overall importance of the subject and its impact on the community. I believe all children can reach their potential if they are give the right tools, encouragement and conducive learning environment.
