My comments on tutoring Geography : I'm good with maps, as well as locating countries and cities on the globe. I'd mostly provide ways that would help students remember where certain places are located and how to read an actual map.

I'm very laid back, but I know how to get results. I have always been a very disciplined student, but I realized pretty early in my academic career that unless I make the subject interesting for me, I'll never grasp the material. I make it a point to get to know every student so that I can personalize their learning style. The only way they'll learn and understand something is if they WANT to do so. I offer a different approach to things that students may not get in the classroom, to hopefully expand their interest in a subject they never thought they'd like.
I recently obtained my Bachelor's Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, where I graduated in the top of my class with a 4.0. I have studied Spanish for over ten years and German for over five years. I have a BA from UCF in foreign language combination. I was a teacher's assistant for a second grade class in 1990 at Winegard Elementary School. I was a hearing-impaired interpreter at a YMCA youth camp for one week in 1990 at Tallahassee. For my last employer, I interpreted Spanish, German, and sign language for cast members and guests on a daily basis for almost 16 years. Additionally, I have tutored math, reading, and spelling for my nieces and nephews at the elementary level. I think the most useful tutor emphasizes critical thinking. I have noticed that many students focus on memorization instead of really understanding the processes behind science, math, and foreign languages. I try to focus on how and why things are, rather than just the fact that they are. I believe that this approach provides students with a deep understanding of the material and an ability to problem-solve on their own. They can then develop better comprehension, and tend to be more interested in learning.
I graduated with my undergraduate degree in marine biology in 2002 and then worked as a research biologist for two and a half years before returning to school to pursue my master’s degree.
