I believe an engaged student will get the most out of tutoring, so I like to ask questions to check for understanding and I try to make the subject more interesting by highlighting the significance of what he or she is studying. I teach using a lot of examples and incorporating the concepts into the example problems so that the student can see how the examples are based on the concepts. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style varies depending on the student. Perhaps my biggest asset is empathy as I can easily tell when a student (or group) gets it. Thus, I do not waste time telling students what they already know, and I can back up and explain in more detail when necessary. I have a kind of fluency in math, science, and language such that I pride myself on being able to explain any topic to any person.
I have taught Medical Neuroanatomy to medical students at the University of Iowa Medical School. Students were directed in dissecting and identifying parts of the human brain. This occurred in small groups of five or six students. I also taught Molecular Neurobiology at Friday Harbor Laboratories to graduate students who came from around the world to take the course.
