Reading Comprehension is one of my top subjects! During many of my college courses, I have been asked to read and then to write about what I read. The only away to write about something, is to comprehend it fully. From my tutoring experience, I learned that students all learn differently. My teaching experience started as a volunteer tutor for ESL learners. For two years I volunteered at the Benjamin Franklin Library, located in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles. It was a big step, but I was ready for the challenge! As a tutor I was responsible for developing my own teaching style and schedule with students. I used teaching materials provided by the library and I also encouraged students to pick their favorite books to let my students know that they can be decision makers. I am a credentialed elementary teacher, but have experience tutoring K-12, both in person and virtually. I began tutoring virtually starting in mid 2019 and refined my skills during the pandemic when everything became virtual. Reading Comprehension is one of my top subjects! Reading is something I do for pleasure. It does not mean anything if a person can read the words, but cannot understand what the text is saying. I really enjoy helping others find pleasure in reading, and also helping them break down the text to understand what the writer is really saying between the lines of the pages.

I have always had the ability to effectively teach my family, peers, and other classmates. However, I recently decided to get into the field of tutoring. My very first session, I fell in love with it. I am understanding that each student has different needs, different strengths and weaknesses. It is my job to reward those strengths, figure out those weaknesses and strengthen them. I am a young lady myself, but I know that the youth is our future.
