I teach and tutor based on students' abilities. I always do a learning styles inventory as well as reading inventories before I began a course of study.
I have been a teacher in K-12 public schools as well as at the college level for the past 7 years. I have served as a community college academic tutor for the past 2 years. I would describe my philosophy of education as an eclectic mixture of perennialism, progressivism, existentialism, and essentialism. A Little Bit About Me...

I did not realize I wanted to become a teacher until after I took a long-term substitute job while looking for employment. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and decided to further my education so that I could continue to teach. My undergraduate degree is in Mass Communications and Public Relations, which has helped me relate to all different students effectively and in different ways. My graduate degree is an Alternative Master's Degree in Secondary Language Arts. I have taught English in grades 7-12 for the past 14 years, and also taught Journalism and English as a Second Language while tutoring at night and in the summers.
