I believe in mentoring. It does take a few times for the student (young and old) to understand that I cannot teach them anything. I can present information to them and attempt to inspire them to learn, but they are the ones who ultimately teach themselves. I very much enjoy helping them figure out the answers to their own problems. My motto: It is my job to help you not need me anymore!
I am a professional singer, actress and dancer who has taught throughout my 15 year career. I truly love teaching, especially in a one-on-one or very small group setting. Prior to homeschooling my six children, I worked as a Research Assistant at the Schriner's Burn Institute in Boston, and then at Darmouth College Medical School in Hanover, NH. My science and laboratory background from UVM was beneficial to my success in these labs. I have now spent to past 18 years homeschooling my children. The three oldest have graduated high school with complete NY state requirements. They have all tested in the 700's in Verbal SAT and high 600's for Math. I feel qualified to tutor most Elementary subjects, as well as advanced Math, Biology, and Chemistry.
I try to involve as many senses as I can when illustrating new concepts and ideas. Math manipulatives are essential elements for early math comprehension. A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked as a pre-school teacher for two years in Syracuse, NY, where I was motivated to enter into the field of education on a permanent basis. I went back to school to attain my masters degree in education in 2008, and finished student teaching in December of 2009. I am accustomed to teaching children from various backgrounds, and learning styles. I am eager to initiate a career in education and serve the students in the greater Cortland county area.
