I teach classical piano, so my students work on scales, arpeggios and etudes to quickly enhance their technique. Their repertoire is varied, but always include piece by one of the greatest composers of the past (Bach, Mozart, Brahms, to mention only a few) and a piece by contemporary composer. The students also play light jazz and they enjoy it a lot.
Over 20 years of teaching experience as a school music teacher, private piano and theory instructor, and conductor for church and community choirs. Throughout my tutoring experience, I noticed oftentimes, students wouldn’t be able completely grasp the concepts the first time when I explained to them. To resolve this problem, I have learned that it is helpful to explain the process of solving the same problem from a different perspective or using a different method. Also, sometimes after I explain a problem to the student, to make sure that the student really understands the concept, I ask the student to explain the same problem back to me or to another student who is also confused about the same problem. As a recreation major, I have held a number of jobs working with children of all ages. My first job as a lifeguard and swim instructor helped me understand how to work with children ages three to fifteen and really get a feel for how their brains operate and the proper learning styles to use for each age. I found working with young minds in different Early Childhood agencies is one reason for earning my Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education.
