A Little Bit About Me...

As a high school honors student, I majored in English and achieved the highest score possible (five -- 5) on the English Exam. In College, I pursued my interest in English language by majoring in Literature, with an emphasis upon etymology, linguistics, speech and rhetoric. My senior thesis on the poetic technique of Alexander Pope earned both an "Honors A" and that year's sole English Faculty Award. I later chose to attend a law school that was renowned for its general emphasis upon writing and, in particular, "plain English" legal communication.
I love to see students grasp a new concept and revisit their work with greater pride and confidence as a result. As an undergraduate student at Central Washington University, I was self motivated and involved in various activities. I have earned two bachelor degrees, BA in Sociology and BA in Law and Justice. In addition to these two broad areas of studies, I am a McNair Scholars recipient and conducted graduate level research. I have mentored and advised students as an employee in student affairs and as a Teacher's Assistant in the Law and Justice Department. During the last 5 years I have tutored students in Sociology, psychology, philosophy and basic grammar skills.
I enjoy teaching all age groups. I especially like working with High School students.Initially, they can be quite a challenge to work with, but once they are engaged they are fully immersed in the topic! I returned to college in my mid-40s to complete a Bachelor's degree, majoring in Biology, minoring in Chemistry and Pre-professional Studies. This enabled me to attain competent understanding of not only the hard science classes, but also to experience writing and presentation skills at the professional level. As a current Biology master's student, I continue to hone those skills as well as pass them on to others. I have many years experience mentoring college students with Biology, Chemistry, and Reading/Writing/Presentation skills. In addition, I home-schooled my son through completion of high school.
