I will generally sit down with the student to get an understanding of the student's current understanding, the curriculum of the class and the areas that are particularly challenging for the student. As part of this process, I will assess why the student is seeking help (is the teacher moving too quickly, is the teacher not explaining it the way the student thinks, is the student not engaged in homework and falling behind, etc).
