I am a “hands-on” type of teacher who likes to get a lot of senses involved in order to enhance student learning. I generally do some initial direct instruction while explaining a new concept, and then I reinforce and assess understanding by doing group projects or activities. Because of my experience with cognitive training, I am also able to use strategies to help students who struggle with memory, attention, and processing.
One of the best compliments that a teacher/tutor can receive is to hear from a parent that their child loves to learn when he used to resent school.
