The most rewarding moment in my teaching career involved Emily, a college student who suffered an injury, leaving her with severe short term memory problems. She had great difficulty learning new math concepts. We could work on the same, problem over and over again and she wouldn’t remember completing it once, let alone a dozen times. I learned that word-for-word repetition was the best way to move ideas from Emily’s short term memory to her long term memory. After many hours working together, I received a phone call from an elated Emily telling me that she finally earned a B in College Algebra and couldn’t have done so without my help. Emily taught me how to adapt to my students. Each student has her own strengths and weaknesses. A Little Bit About Me...

I moved to NYC in 2001 to become a Broadway actor; however, I did not want to live the actor "lifestyle" and in essence become a professional waiter. I signed up for an alternative teaching program and accepted a position as a social studies teacher in the projects of East New York, Brooklyn. I quickly realized that teaching was a full time job, and I did not have time to pursue acting, which was fine because I enjoyed my experience as a teacher and as a mentor to children who needed strong male leadership. I taught for two years in the classroom, as well as all after school and Saturday programs in math and literacy. I also took up an evening job tutoring students at the local Sylvan Learning Center in Brooklyn, NY.

I enjoy teaching, espcially to children. I believe that students can learn the best with the best teachers. A good teacher should assess students correctly, so that he/she can provide approiate materials and teaching. According to students' academic progress, teachers should also adjust their lessons to fit students' needs. With all those qualification, a teacher should also be passionate about teaching, and the sucess of the students.
As a class teacher, I have gained the experience teaching ENglish and Math to young children. I also had multiple parttime tutoring experience, which provided me additional experience teaching students from different backgrounds and age groups. I have been tutoring for as long as I can remember. In fact, the rich experiences I had tutoring played a primary role in my pursuit of teaching. I tutored throughout high school and college, working with different ages and subjects. Most of my experience has been with intermediate-grade and middle-school students for reading, math, and science. However, I also tutored Spanish at the college level. I am a recent graduate of two degrees, a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Edward Waters College and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Florida A&M University. I was able to obtain both degrees under a Dual Degree Program that was arranged between the two institutions. Throughout the completion of my degrees, I tutored college students in various math areas (College Algebra, Trig, Linear Algebra, etc).
