I believe everyone has their own aptitude for learning and will endeavor to discover each childs unique style for learning to help them strive to do their best in each endeavor they apply themselves to. My goal is to provide the best education possible and work with their own unique personalities on how to get them there. My parents and educators were a big factor in my life growing up and I hope to pass along some of that insight, knowledge and passion for learning that they taught me.
I have grown up in an education oriented household with both parents as teachers (Dad Chemistry and Mom English). Since earing my degree in CIS I have had 10 years of industry experience as well as having worked as a substitute teacher in both the Galesburg (CUSD #205, 200-2001) and Peoria (District 150,2007-Present) School Districts.

I am a student that has a drive of excellence. I graduated from Northern Ill. Univ in 2010, as cum laude. I hold a B.S. in BioChemistry. I have experience as a tutor, which I obtained while as a student at NIU. I would tutor other students with in the chemistry, math, and biology departments.
I love teaching. I us a guiding method of teaching. Because I believe that students learn the most when they do the work themselves, but sometimes they need someone there to motivate them or to guide them in the right direction. I feel this works in group studies also, but, the difference being is that all the student will be involved in a group discussion.

During my graduate program at SIU, I become a teaching assistant and fell in love with teaching. I taught undergraduate laboratory in microbiology and bacteriology to undergraduate students. I have earned a bachelor's in Biology from Augustana and am finishing writing my thesis to obtain my Master's in Biological Sciences from SIU. Since I have written and critiqued my thesis, research papers, lab reports, and other science papers, I have gained much knowledge in grammar. My teaching style is one which engages the student actively in the learning process. I have used the "popcorn" technique in a classroom, where I call out "popcorn", then call on someone at random. This ensures that each student in the class is following, or else they lose their turn to read. If I'm working w/ a student w/ poor reading skills, I allow them to read, and help them w/ the difficult words, encouraging them to sound out the word. I also try to engage models, and kinestetics, in the learning process. One picture=1,000 words, and one model = 1,000 pictures. I also use these techniques in teaching mathematics.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have had practical experience working as a microbiology level I technician for a major pharmaceutical company. My primary duties included many of the bench chemistry and laboratory biology techniques from college. I have completed one year of post bachelor's education at Illinois State University and am currently one semester shy of obtaining my type 09 high school teaching certification. While at ISU, I was a graduate level teaching assistant and was responsible for teaching several lab sections of Biology 101.
