This was a blessing in disguise because it taught me not only to learn different ways to tutor a student, but also to figure out through body language and little signals as to whether or not they were actually comprehending the information. Teaching is not just giving information and hoping they retain it. A Little Bit About Me...

In the past, my classes have lasted up to three hours at a time. Thus, I have been forced to implement new methodologies in order to not only keep my students focused and interested, but continually learning as well. I incorporate fun activities such as creative writing and music into my lessons while still closely following the curriculum. I began teaching/tutoring while in graduate school. I tutored undergrads in sociology, psychology, and social statistics. I also taught driver's education to high school students while in grad school. After ten years working in law enforcement, I switched to social services and I have been mentoring children in foster care for the past twenty years.
I try to keep the material fresh and I avoid boredom and repetition at all costs. One of my best tools to connect with a young person is through humor. If the student feels relaxed they are more likely to absorb the information. I also use reverse psychology to turn the tables so they actually find themselves teaching me the material. This has been a successful tool with children I have mentored as well as my own children.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a Bachelors degree in Biomedical Sciences. I have taken courses such as Biology, Chemistry, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Physics and Comparative Anatomy, and Mammailian Physiology. I also taught the labs for the Microbiology for three years and also taught the labs for Comparative Anatomy for a year. I worked with hundreds of students and throughly enjoyed that time with my students.
I worked first hand with professor and teaching assistant and have learned what they are looking for. My teaching style is really one of encouragement, love, belief, knowledge, honesty and respect. I believe that children need to know that you are truely concerned for them before they really want to know how much knowledge you can dispense to them. As an elementary student in the 4th grade I had a reading deficiency and was reading on a 1st grade level. It my parents and tutors that gave the encouragement to continue trying and the self-esteem to know that I could do it.
